Shower the People You Love. . .

. . . with diapers. Our friends gave us such a wonderful "Diapers and Dishes" shower this weekend. So not only does Baby Girl X now have enough diapers to last her well into her potty training days, we've got frozen casseroles in our freezer! We had a great time, and a big thanks goes out to all involved!

True Story

One thing we love about Riley is that she always says what's on her mind. She didn't talk for a long time, but now that she is talking, she truly has no filter. Brice keeps saying, "You have to start writing this stuff down." Well, here's my chance.

Recent Riley quote: "When you are in the hospital I am going to come lay with you. I will rub your hair and help you feel better.. . . . . . That was sweet."

Riley also has a keen eye for fashion: "That shirt does not matches those pants. You should wear your blue pants. Don't wear those."

. . . and a new awareness of gender issues: "The baby is going to be your baby and my baby. It is not Porter's baby or Daddy's baby. She is ours cause we are girls. They cannot have her."

Weird Joey

I thought some of you might enjoy some of the pictures I've been getting from my brother Joey lately. Apparently he got a new computer that has a camera function, and has been going a little shall we say stir crazy with all the snowy weather they've been having in Connecticut lately. Also featured in these pictures is the adorable Nadine, who has her own blog that can be seen if you click on "The Deener" link over to the right. Of course I got permission from Joey before I posted these, you can ask him yourself.

The kitchen

February 2006.
Approx. 3 feet tall.
This is what the kitchen looks like.

(Note the Toes!!, His Floor pics always have toes.)

2 Weeks and Counting...

Well, We are on the final stretch. Laura and I had a "False Alarm" last night. The hospital sent us home saying "you are having regular contractions that are 3 minute apart, BUT IT'S NOT LABOR." Anyhoo, we are now bitter and on red alert and are anxious to see this little girl. I have been trying to get the masses of old digital pictures organized now that we have a Blog. and came across this one. It is of Riley when she was 2 months old. If this girl is like her little sister we are in a world of hurt.

Our Little Amateur Photog

This will be a recurring item in our blog that we like to call "The World According to Porter." Two summers ago we started noticing some great pictures showing up on our digital camera- interesting angles, close ups of fun objects, attention to detail. . . that kind of stuff. Sure enough it turns out Porter has quite an eye for photography, and has actually captured some things around the house and outside that we are glad to have on film.

A new take on Christmas cards. . .

Baby Riley through the window. . .

A tower to remember

Lions and Flowers and Power Rangers, Oh My!

Here are some random shots of life at the Young house lately. Porter came home from church dressed like a lion one Wednesday night, and explained that he (unlike the other lions) was a good lion, and did not eat Daniel. You can decide for yourself.

Riley recently got a big treat when Poppy sent her flowers! She felt very special to receive something so beautiful from the UPS man. . . I think she has a thing for all mail carriers now.

Porter and his friend Ben Atkinson spend a lot of time together, and one of their favorite new activities is training to be Power Rangers using the Power Rangers Training video. I'm glad to report, they've both completed the training, mastered the kicks, and are on their way to defeating evil in a city near you.

A Good Valentines Day

Well, this is my first post on the Blog. Just wanted to say hello and let everyone know that we had a good valentines day. We got doughnuts this morning for breakfast. Laura and I then headed out to the Doctor for the weekly check-up. He then surprised us by asking if we wanted to go ahead and schedule a date for induction if the baby was not here by then. That was all great until he suggested March 6th. The actual due date is the 14th. He then said that he was going to be out of town and wanted to make sure everything was OK before he went out of town. Needless to say, that makes us all excited. other than that it was a pretty quiet day. We hope you have had a good day and sleep well.

Godspeed,

Brice

Estrogen Overload (Poor Porter)

Yes, this reunion weekend happened a few months ago, I realize, but I had to post some pictures of the tri-annual coming together of Amy Booth, Jessica White, and myself. We try to get together a few times a year, in either Clinton, Monroe, or Hattiesburg. This year, our house was overflowing with beautiful females, but I know Porter had a lot of fun being the alpha-male of the group. It really is so much fun to see all of our kids playing together, yet it is strangely sobering to think that we never left the house because it just seemed like too much trouble. Please enjoy pictures of Jessica's baby Sydney, Amy's girls Sophie and Ava, and the Youngs having a great time!

Fun with Nadine in Memphis

Porter and Riley got some great playtime in with Cousin Nadine and Aunt Katie recently. Hard to believe they hadn't seen each other since last summer! They had so much fun together, and Porter even got to help Nadine learn some new climbing moves on the playground at Chick-fil-A, and the girls had a blast playing with Barbies. We love Uncle Joey and his family so much, we wish we could see them everyday!

Soccer 2006

Porter played soccer this past fall, and loved every minute of it. Cost of jersey: $20, Cost of registration: $60, Cost of soccer cleats: $25, The look of joy on Porter's face as he ran past mom and dad on the sidelines: priceless. For the season highlights, check out these pictures.

Porter's Christmas Program

On Dec. 19th, Porter and all his classmates and friends from church performed in the theatrical event of the year, the Children's Festival of Lessons and Carols. Porter played the part of an angel, along with all the other 4-5 year olds at Woodland. His singing was spectacular, his hand motions, effortless. He even helped keep all the other angels in line. Here are some pictures of his debut into the world of theatre.
